For the only high-rise modular tower in a high seismic zone in the US, DF&A’s primary focus is earthquake preparedness. However, the design goes beyond safety to create a distinctive yet harmonious presence.
Situated between the historic Chancery and Finance Buildings, and near the Hobart Building by Willis Polk, DF&A aimed to blend in while standing out. To reduce its visual impact, DF&A divided the tower into four sections and crafted a façade that emphasises depth, shadow, and texture, mirroring the character of nearby structures with steel mesh in place of terra-cotta.
